Gone, but not forgotten – In memory of Sam Fleetwood
Tuesday 6th of March 2012 was a very sad day for us. Our dear friend Sam Fleetwood from Monterey California, lost her battle with breast cancer. She  is now with the  angels sailing the skies and looking down at all of us who are still sailing the oceans. Our thoughts go out to Bill, her husband .

We first meet Sam and Bill in Turkey  back in 2009 while planning  for our trip through Greece and Croatia and we cruised with them for several months, we loved their company. They had been out sailing the world in their lovely 50 foot ketch, Blue Banana, for around 14 years, and for many of those years Sam was being administered  her chemo therapy by Bill, now that’s courageous on both their parts. They never let her illness prevent them doing what they cherished, and her passing is a massive loss to the close-knit cruising community. It certainly awakens us all as to our own vulnerability, you just never know what’s around the corner. Sam and Bill have been inspirational in many ways, but none more so than  living life on their terms by getting out there and just doing it. They are the perfect example of people who decided to see the world from a sailing boat and went out and pursued that vision, as many of us have done. Imagine if Sam and Bill had thrown in the towel and quit cruising when she was first diagnosed? They would both have had very different and possibly unfulfilled lives compared to what they have achieved, and we would have missed out on their wonderful company, so we are sure happy they stuck with it.
To beautiful, dear Sam, we love you heaps, miss you terribly and think of you often. And to Bill, love to you also and a very big hug is coming your way when we next meet.
